I had a friend who sold Mary Kay in college. I had used some Mary Kay in the past like eye shadows and mascaras, but had never been to parties or anything like that. The products were just given to me by my mom.

My friend asked if I could do a career talk with her director to help her earn her way to a free pearl necklace. I figured that would be harmless. I would just sit through the call, ask a few questions, and be done with it. I didnt have much interest in becoming a consultant. BIG MISTAKE.

I told the sales director that i wasn't interested in selling Mary Kay and that I was too busy to invest the time and money into starting . She tried to talk me into doing it. I was stubborn at first. I told her I didn't have the time or energy. She was so persistent in trying to get me to join.

The next day, my friend who is a consultant asked me to go to lunch with her. Little did I know that she and her director were both meeting me to pretty much ambush me and pressure me into trying Mary Kay. I caved and bought the starter kit. The director told me how Mary Kay helped her get out of $75,000 plus of credit card debt and how that I could be making $100 an hour at every party. Right....

Anyways, I should have gotten out of it but I was open to see what the big fuss was about. My director pressured me into buying as much inventory as possible. I was thinking really lady? I am a poor college student. I just can't drop thousands of dollars on inventory like it's no big deal. I bought the second to smallest amount of inventory. Funny, because once my inventory was purchased, I didnt hear much from my director or consultant friend after that. Basically the impression from them was "Hey, Mary Kay will change your life. You will make lots of money. I will help you buy all of your products. Oh cool, I have my commission check. See ya. Good luck selling all of the product you just bought."

I know not all consultants/directors are like this, but these girls were way too pushy and pressured me into buying inventory but then had no interest in helping me get started. It was clear they were only interested in getting commission from me deciding to join.

But wait, it gets better. I called the repurchase department so I could sell back my product. That is one thing I like about Mary Kay. They will buy back the product for 90% of what you paid. When I called the deparment, my director was notified. She instantly called, texted and emailed me non stop begging me to stay with Mary Kay and how I hadnt given it enough time. I was so over it at that point.

Here's the thing to all of you Mary Kay consultants: If you feel the need to pressure and ambush people into joining your team, have the decency to care and follow up with them after. I think very poorly of Mary Kay after this experience.

Monetary Loss: $2000.

it sounds like she was trying to get a certain goal and didn't think of your feelings but that is not how Mary Kay rolls it all depends on your director I have the most supportive understanding director and I'm really sorry that you experience Mary K like this it sounds like they didn't explain to you how work once again Sorry

Hi, the same thing happened to me. I am man and I joined MK just to help my friend since she was trying to get as many people as possible in her team.

So I bought my started kit and then she called and told me that I needed to but the next package and I did. Spend over $1000 and couldn't sell anything. If for a woman is hard to sell cosmetics, can you imagine how hard if for a guy approaching females on the streets or trying to arrange parties. My friend never tried to help but it just didn't work.

9 months passed by and never heard of her again. I texted her and asked to find out for me how can I sell this products back to the company and now she was this will make her look bad. It's been 2 months since then and no news from her.

She even blocked me from facebook and wathsapp. So my experience with MK has been the worst ever.

You can sell back your inventory within a certain time. Call Product Repurchase: (972) 687-****.

You might also want to google, "how can I sell back my Mary Kay inventory," to find more details. Good luck!

I am so sorry that this happened. I have used Mary Kay since I was 15 and been a consultant for 3.

My director checks in with me through email and never bothers me to order.

The Mary Kay way is to help each other. SO sorry you did not have that experience:(

I'm so sorry this was your experience. That is not the Mary Kay way and is not how most consultants/directors are.

Your friend didn't turn out to be much of a friend, did she? Too bad you let them pressure you, when you should have said NO and stood your ground.

At least, you will know better next time. And by the way, of course these people were only interested in commissions off you. That is how they make their money and that is why they are selling it to begin with. I too was turned off by Mary Kay cosmetics when I attempted to order a facial masque from 3 different consultants and all three put extreme pressure on me to have a party and buy an entire set.

I said NO! to all three people and walked away, disgusted.
