I was told that I would have my makeup done by the consultant at Mary Kay for my wedding. She found me at david's bridal in Piscataway NJ and I was under the impression that she would not waste my time for "everyday" makeup and give me a "look" for my wedding.

I spoke to her on the phone and she agreed that she would try on any style I wanted, I even sent her a picture, and she said, sure I will create that for you. Then when the day arrived, she just sat us down and had us do our own makeup, not the colors I requested, nothing that I wanted. If I knew how to do my own makeup then why would I have her come. On top of it, she didnt have ANY products that were appropriate for the wedding.

No waterproof stuff, very bad quality.

I am incredibly disappointed with the service and I think that Mary Kay shouldn't fool poor girls at wedding shops into thinking they are getting their makeup done for their wedding. It is such a scam !

Location: Piscataway Township, New Jersey

You sound like a bridezilla. Mary Kay consultants are not allowed to put makeup on people. They only instruct and their products have been #1 for the last 15 years.

They are NOT number 1. May I suggest you fact check what your script is telling you to repeat ?

Really? She sounds like a bridezilla because she was completely mislead into thinking she was going to get a new look for her wedding when it was really a skin care "class"?

I am a MK Consultant as well as a certified makeup artist. In reading the complaints on this site, it appears that the complaints are mostly against the IBC and not necessarily MK.

My advise to all is to do your research!!! For weddings, as a makeup artist, there's ALWAYS a makeup consultation that I do with my clients at least 2 months prior to the wedding. This allows me to meet with the client, get feedback of what they want, apply a look and make adjustments if needed. It was unfortunate that the MK Consultant mislead you and chances are, you may not have been direct with what you wanted.

As a makeup artist, I too advertise with bridal stores but I also leave my business card for my Makeup business with the bridal companies as well.

I have my certificates should the client wish to see them and a website that advertises my work. Again, I do apologize for the unfortunate experience but more research should've been done.

I received a call from one of the Mary Kay consultants about my "free" wedding day spa treatment and makeup trial that I had "won". After hearing my fiance talk about friends and relatives who had told him they had bought Mary Kay's products and were scammed by them, I did some research.

What I found were numerous sites with complaints that confirmed what he told me. Anyways, like you, they contacted me through David's Bridal. To continue my story, I received a call from them, and they just assumed that I would agree to do the "free" trial, asking when I wanted to set up an appointment. I told her the truth, that sadly, my wedding planner had already set me up with someone to do my hair and makeup.

After I said this, the consultant just muttered an, "Oh." I heard a click and thought that her connection had suddenly cut out. I waited a couple of minutes and tried to call back. Got a busy signal. Waited another couple of minutes.

Same thing.

So I have come to the conclusion that the consultant, having realized that I was no longer a potential customer, rudely hung up on me. I really did not appreciate this immature behavior.

I am so sorry an ignorant consultant mislead you. A lot of times consultants just don't know and other times they just don't care about their customers.

Either way she does not represent the majority of the MK sales force.

There are "not so great" people in all industries. You don't stop obeying the law because there are bad cops so please don't swear off MK because of one poorly trained consultant.

Let's be very clear here about Mary Kay Consultants. Unless, they achieved a cosmetology license outside of their Mary Kay business, a Mary Kay Consultant is not a cosmetologist.

She/he is a salesperson and a teacher, and their training comes from Mary Kay and their own personal desire to learn what MK offers them. Consultants are not allowed to touch a customers face. They can only teach a customer how to apply the makeup or use the skin care line. For everyday use this is great.

Most of us need a learn-by-doing class when it comes to makeup. Having someone put it on for us teaches us nothing. If you are going to intrust someone to do your makeup for you on your big, special day, you should pay money for a makeup artist. PLEASE do a trial run with them first so you come up with exact look you want on your wedding day and you don't look like a freak.

A Mary Kay Consultant for wedding days is great if you are someone that likes to do your own makeup and you like great quality cosmetics. It's fun to get your bridal party together for a makeover class with a consultant. Some brides give their bridal party the cosmetics they choose as a gift. As a bride or any customer, be clear and firm with your consultant the look you are trying to achieve.

They have the products and all the tools to make that happen - you just need to play with the colors and put it on yourself. I love Mary Kay products and I love what the company does for women, but in the case of this type of complaint, Mary Kay Consultants need make it clear to customers exactly what they can do for them and tell them about the "hands off" policy they must abide by since they are not cosmetologists

Sorry to hear that. That was a very careless person.

I'm down in NC and I have done weddings and fashion shows and they come out amazing. She was probably more worried about the sale and not you. And that is not what Mary Kay is all about.

I love the feeling of knowing my clients love there look and makeup. She needs to put clients first or get out of MK.
